Mystery, Secrets, and Surreal Art
Beginning a painting is the introduction to a mystery. While I might begin with a scene, a color, a line or a shape, what emerges while I work is unknown. That's the thrill of painting for me--the discovery! Sometimes that discovery is made in the world of the surreal and sometimes it is to be found in the reordering of things. When I'm exploring on a path like that, there is always a surprise and a message. I try to report back, with painting, what I've found. The interpretation of the final image is not always clear to me and my interpretation is no more valid than yours.
